Organic agriculture has developed a lot in the last years; from a production appreciated by a small part of consumers, it has conquered a very large segment of population. The organic sector is in constant growth, as the last relationship of the International Federation for Organic Agriculture shows: 30,4 million certified hectares and an growth of around 1,8 million in one year.
People ask for food safety, also because of recent scandals, and we should give them certain answers. Organic products, thanks to their rigorous system of controls, constitute in this sense a guarantee.
Certification, in fact, means quality and safety for consumers.
With new Regulation 834/2007 of the European Community, which had gone into effect since first January 2009, we have made an important footstep ahead. The new Regulation in fact will allow to make more rational the controls system and to simplify the norms on organic production, constituting a base of growth for this sector. Another important step will be the new logo to insert in labels, that will be adopted by the European Union within 2010.
To choose organic means to respect nature, to protect the environment and to worry about people and animals’ health and safety.
