EQUALITAS – wine sector

Equalitas Certification – Sustainable Wine
The Equalitas scheme is a voluntary, certifiable standard designed to promote a shared and practical vision of sustainability in the wine sector, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
Equalitas applies to the entire wine supply chain — from grape growers to processors and bottlers — and offers certification at three levels:
- Company: organizational and management sustainability
- Product: grapes, must, and wine
- Territory: impact and relationships with the environment and local communities
The Pillars of Equalitas Sustainability
Equalitas defines measurable requirements and indicators across three key areas:
- Environmental:
- Carbon footprint
- Water footprint
- Biodiversity (soil, air, water)
- Social:
- Workers’ rights and well-being
- Training and equal opportunities
- Engagement with local communities
- Economic:
- Fair compensation and sustainable investments
- Transparent relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
- Management control and continuous improvement
Best Practices and Transparency
The standard encourages the adoption of sustainable practices in agriculture, winemaking, and communication, including:
- Responsible soil and resource management
- Elimination of hazardous pesticides
- Verified communication policies and sustainability reporting
- Declaration of conformity for the use of the “Sustainable Winery” label
Equalitas certification is issued by accredited third-party bodies like Cosmocert together with Bioagricert, both part of the FoodChain ID Group, ensuring credibility and recognition for consumers and stakeholders alike.
