Leaf Marque

LEAF Marque: the environmental extension of the GLOBALG.A.P. standard
The LEAF Marque certification is a natural and complementary extension of the GLOBALG.A.P. standard, enriching it with specific requirements related to environmental sustainability, landscape management, and biodiversity protection.
While GLOBALG.A.P. IFA (Integrated Farm Assurance) provides the technical foundation for Good Agricultural Practices—covering food safety, hygiene, traceability, and worker welfare—LEAF Marque adds a higher level of commitment focused on farming in harmony with the environment and local communities, based on the principles of Integrated Farm Management (IFM).
✅ What the LEAF Marque standard requires
Established in the UK in 1991, the LEAF Marque protocol applies to all types of farms, regardless of crop or livestock production, and promotes a holistic approach to farm management. Key requirements include:
- Sustainable management of soil, water, energy, and biodiversity
- Minimizing the environmental impact of farming activities
- Preserving the agricultural landscape and its relationship with the territory
- Documented traceability throughout the supply chain
- Community engagement and ongoing training for farm staff
- Annual audits by independent certification bodies
- Compliance with Critical Failure Points (CFPs) to obtain or maintain certification
🔗 Integration with GLOBALG.A.P.
To be eligible for LEAF Marque certification, a farm must already be certified to GLOBALG.A.P. IFA. The two standards work in synergy:
GLOBALG.A.P. | LEAF Marque |
Food safety | Environmental sustainability |
Good Agricultural Practices (G.A.P.) | Integrated Farm Management (IFM) |
Traceability and hygiene | Biodiversity, natural resource management, landscape impact |
Legal compliance | Community and landscape engagement |
This integration allows farms to achieve an advanced level of certification, often required by high-end markets and major retailers in Northern Europe and the UK.
